Guidebook Jekyll Island
Location/Region: Midway
between Savannah, Georgia and Jacksonville, FL and minutes off
I-95. Region is Southeast Georgia.
Geographical Description: Located
across a 6 mile, marsh hemmed causeway, arrive at Jekyll Island,
one of Georgia's barrier island's with miles of unspoiled
coastline and woodlands.
Climate:
Spring weather comes early in coastal Georgia,
usually in February.
Summers are long and warm, but moderated by ocean
breezes.
Fall is marked by delightful temperatures and
clear days with relatively low humidity.
Winters are brief and mild with daytime highs
suitable for outdoor activities.
Population: approximately 1,000
Area History: The Jekyll Island Club Hotel was
once called "The richest, the most exclusive and most inaccessible club
in the world". Founded in 1886, it was the winter retreat for some of
America's most elite families including such names as Morgan, Astor,
Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Pulitzer and others. Much of that world has
been preserved and faithfully restored in the Jekyll Island National
Historic Landmark District.

Campground offers 18
wooded acres on the Island's north end with 206 campsites, from tent
sites
to full hook-up, pull through RV sites with electricity, cable TV, water
and
sewerage and with free wi-fi.
