A European Feeling in Downtown Providence by Linda S. Manning / Photos by Paul S. Manning
(Providence, Rhode Island)
I never thought it would be possible to experience the wonders
of Europe in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. Yes, it was
promising but could I truly feel I was in a foreign country
right here in the smallest state?
Providence, located in the
center of the entertainment, theatre and cultural scene and
known for its wealth of fine dining establishments is fortunate
to display one of the city's first European-style boutique
hotels, the ultimate destination, The Hotel Providence.
To begin with there were
sounds of church bells in the distance. Sounds that transport
you back in time as you listen to the chimes swaying back and
forth presenting its musical notes.
Gaze at the architecture
surrounding an old city of yesteryear and wonder of its past now
brought to light in an enchanting and exciting
opulence, captured in present day. In the city of Providence, a
historic charm emerges. the essence of destination casting a
glow reminiscent of Paris or Florence or Rome.

Explore lavish surroundings where art,
history, culture, and city life merge into one. A place where there is a
blending of old traditional values of ancient times showing off with a
new contemporary approach. A place where European principles radiate
throughout the historic 19th century buildings lavishly appointed in
renaissance décor, and a place where time may have been frozen in the
past or transformed into a new identity, the main character starring as,
The Hotel Providence.

As I sat in the massive leather and
fabric chair in the hotel lobby while listening to classical music I
couldn't help but think of the countless architectural embellishments
viewed from each direction. A contrast of dark and light fortifications
enveloped with oil paintings and artifacts celebrating a moment in time.
Finally, a lavish seven story boutique hotel with eighty guest rooms
offering the finest of staff services, artistic expression, and
elaborate décor in downtown Providence. A gallery in itself complimented
by arched gilt mirrors, coffered ceilings, and fine carpeting.

Each guest room is specifically designed with furnishings of light tiger
maple and dark walnut, mimicking the walls of the lobby. A nationally
recognized artist, Nancy Freise displays her limited edition Chincole
engravings in each of the rooms or suites. As a one of a kind addition
the art work accents the high end finishes and rich fabrics which hang
from the walls and nestle atop the luxurious beds.
Plan a lavish event in one of the
ballrooms or indulge yourself as you visit the fitness club prior to
immersing yourself into rich culture and history.
