Inn at Valley Farms Named in
Yankee Magazine’s Top Ten Historic Inns
Walpole, New
Hampshire, December 6, 2011 – The Inn at Valley
Farms was recently named among ten top historic
Inns in New England by Yankee Magazine. The Inn
at Valley Farms is one of two New Hampshire Inns
topping the select list, the other being the
Hancock Inn in Hancock. “We traveled many
hundreds of miles in our search for the best of
New England's oldest inns and B&Bs--those that
still evoke the 18th century but are cushioned
in contemporary comforts”, writes Christina Tree
in her piece entitled “The Best of the Oldest”,
the lead travel feature in Yankee Magazine’s
latest issue. Historic inns in New England built
before 1799 were rated on the following
additional criteria: comfort; historic ambience;
food; setting; things to do nearby; value;
hearths; a storied past; and, having a nice
library. The Inn at Valley Farms ranked number
eight of the top 10.
“It’s been a
labor of love restoring not only the Inn, the
barns and other outbuildings but also the
gardens and fields of this property. To be
included in Yankee’s list among these other fine
New England Inns is a real honor“, says
Jacqueline Caserta, Innkeeper of the Inn at
Valley Farms.
After an
extensive renovation, the previously private
1774 Colonial home opened as the Inn at Valley
Farms in the fall of 1999 with three elegant
guest rooms and two three-bedroom
self-sufficient cottages. Extensive renovation
was complete in 2007 on another building on the
property - a farmhouse vacation rental for
guests desiring self-sufficient lodging for
weekly or extended stays. Collectively, the Inn
can sleep 28 guests and with its variety in type
of lodging makes it a perfect choice not only
for a quiet getaway or family vacation, but
intimate weddings, special events and family
reunions as well.
Located on 105
acres of green rolling farmland, the grounds are
as picturesque as the interior. Extensive
perennial, vegetable, herb and edible flower
gardens are maintained throughout the property.
Breakfast is a decadent three course affair by
candlelight each morning using as much of what
is grown on the farm as possible. After
breakfast guests can tour the farm, visit the
animals, hike the nature trail, walk to
neighboring orchard or visit the quaint village
of Walpole just a short drive away.
The Inn is
also known for its green efforts being the first
property in the Monadnock Region to be named
“Environmental Champion” by the NH Sustainable
Restaurant and Lodging Association in 2009. The
farm was named NH Farm of Distinction in early
2011 and both the Inn and the farm’s efforts
were honored as part of a Green Business of the
Year Award earlier this year.
Three
generations of the Caserta family own and
operate the farm. While Jacqueline manages the
Inn and gardens, her brother Chris and his wife
Caitlin manage what’s known as Walpole Valley
Farms, a sustainable grass-based farm raising
100% grass-fed beef, pasture-raised pork,
chickens, turkey, and eggs which are sold to
fine area restaurants and shops as well as
available through their farm store located on
the property which is open to the public.

England Inns awarded the Yankee Magazine honor
