Breathtaking desert views, stunning golf courses, luxurious spas and
Native American-inspired gourmet fare are just some of the features
luring visitors to Arizona resorts and restaurants. This year, AAA
awards 63 Arizona hotels and restaurants with Four Diamond status while
nine hotels and restaurants earn the most coveted AAA distinction, Five
Diamonds. These properties will be recognized at the Diamond Reception
and Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 2, at The Westin Kierland Resort &
Spa in Scottsdale, a Four Diamond recipient.
AAA’s Four and Five Diamond Awards
recognize North America’s finest accommodations and restaurants for
their exceptional quality, outstanding customer service and first-class
amenities. This year’s Five Diamond Winners represent less than one
quarter of one percent of the 60,000 properties AAA evaluated throughout
North America.
“Service is what distinguishes Four
and Five Diamond facilities,” says Jim Prueter, AAA Vice President of
Travel. “Anticipating a guest’s need before the guest expresses—or even
realizes—that need, greeting the guest by name, quickly answering the
phone—all these things make a visit more pleasurable and more

accommodations information in its travel publications in the early
1900s. In 1937 AAA began inspecting hotels, motels and restaurants –
rating them as good, very good, excellent or outstanding. In 1977, AAA
introduced the five-level Diamond Rating System, which is widely
recognized as a leading benchmark of quality ratings for North American
restaurants and lodgings.
