Flaik™
GPS Tracking

Mescalero / Ruidoso, NM
( November 2011 ) – Ski
Apache, New Mexico’s
southern-most ski area
located in Mescalero
just 85 miles southwest
of Roswell, N.M. and two
hours north of El Paso,
Texas, has opened for
its 50th season on the
slopes of the Sierra
Blanca. The Southwest’s
premier mountain ski
resort began the
season with its annual
Party on the Mountain
Saturday, October 22,
followed closely by the
2011 Warren Miller film
premiere Nov. 19 and
opening date was
Thanksgiving Day 24. A
new benefit for resort
guests this year will be
the addition of the Flaik™ GPS tracking
device.
Situated high in the
picturesque mountains of
Mescalero, New Mexico
and resting at 11,500
feet with a vertical
drop of 1,800 feet, Ski
Apache’s dry, arid
climate makes for
optimal snow conditions
for skiers and
snowboarders of all
levels. Fifty-five
trails served by 11
lifts (triple and quad
chairs), including New
Mexico’s only gondola
virtually eliminate long
lift lines, keep
visitors busy all day
long, making the
mountain’s four-diamond
resort accommodations at
Inn of the Mountain Gods
a welcome resting place
après ski
Starting Thanksgiving
Day the mountain is open
seven days per week from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lift
tickets are $54 for
adults, $47 for seniors
(60 years and older),
$43 for military
personnel, $45 for teens
(13-17 years) and $34
for children under 13.
Group ticket discounts
are also available in
addition to individual
ski and snowboard
equipment rentals, $20
for adults and $12 for
children. Lifts run
daily including holidays
and more than 100
instructors are
available daily for
lessons. And with 15
feet of average annual
snowfall in addition to
its snowmaking
capabilities, Ski
Apache’s three terrain
parks provide the
hottest action on the
mountain featuring five
standard boxes, one
rainbow box, three flat
rails, one battleship
rail, one flat-down-flat
rail and one A-frame
rail.
New this season, Ski
Apache is offering
skiers and riders the
opportunity to outfit
themselves with flaik™
Global Positioning
System (GPS) tracking
tags, making it possible
to locate children and
guests on the mountain
in real-time, while also
providing a chance to
track their day on the
mountains, recording
information such as
lifts used, runs
explored and more. Those
enrolled in private
lessons will have the
option of wearing a GPS
tag as well. The tag
itself uses cellular
technology via a Global
System for Mobile
communications (GSM)
network and transmits
information which is
then collected by a
central server, enabling
flaik™ to not only
pinpoint a guest’s exact
location, but also his
or her physical
relationship to other
guests or resort staff
as well. Once registered
on www.flaik.com users
can view statistics from
their day on the
mountains and share them
with friends and family.
Supplementing the epic
skiing and riding
conditions, Ski Apache
invites guests to take
part in other
mountainside events
including the Dummy
Gelunde and Torchlight
Parade Sunday, Dec. 18,
free Music on the
Mountain and Terrain
Park Competitions every
other Saturday afternoon
and, Kids Klub
activities which take
place on Sundays from
Jan. 2 through Feb. 20.
Wrap things up with the
Pond Skimming
Competition on March 19
and snow-lovers have a
season full of fun and
games at the region’s
top ski area.
For those who just can’t
wait to see the fresh
powder in all its glory,
Ski Apache offers a live
web cam, found at
www.SkiApache.com, along
with an interactive
trial map,
up-to-the-minute weather
conditions and snow
reports, also available
via RSS feed and text
