Nature
occurs in the drama of rocky promontories bathed
in crashing waves, the silhouette of tenacious
cypress trees clinging to cliffs, the panorama
of a scythe-shaped bay giving way to the vast
Pacific Ocean. The sweeping mountain ranges the
peaks of which get lost in the fog and whose
foothills help shape the fertile valley below.
These images of Monterey County astonish the
first-time visitor and provide the inspiration
to return again and again.
Monterey County is
located 120 miles/192 km south of San Francisco
and 345 miles/552 km north of Los Angeles along
the classic California corridor. The region
boasts 99 miles of prime Pacific Coastline, the
Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, three
historic missions, 40,000 acres of premium
vineyards, 24 golf courses and over 250 lodging
properties. Monterey County includes the
Monterey Peninsula, Big Sur, North County and
the Salinas Valley.

Chisholm Trail
Heritage Center
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is America's
only museum devoted entirely to the Old Chisholm
Trail and the Great Cattle-Drive Era of the 19th
Century. State-of-the-art museum technology
brings the Trail to life. Live the adventure of
the great cattle drives and meet some of the
individuals who helped create the legend that is
the Chisholm Trail and the American West.
"The Garis Gallery of the American West is the
most concise snapshot of our western art as seen
from an Oklahoma perspective that exists
anywhere," according to Ken Davenport - owner of
the Arkansas Art Gallery in Little Rock,
Arkansas. He also remarked, "This should be the
first stop of a student of western art in the
exploration of the Chisholm Trail, Western and
Native American Art. From Duncan--you can go on
to Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Fort Worth, Denver and
Santa Fe."
The Experience Theater, with IMAX-like
large-screen projection, complete with special
effects, puts you right on the old Trail.
