Pet Friendly Travel Tips for Vacation Rentals

You can find pet friendly vacation rental condos, homes and cabins. Beach cities offer condos and homes that are beachfront or close to the beach. Cabins in areas such as the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee offer great wooded areas and breathtaking views.

St. Augustine, Florida is a pet friendly city. It has pet friendly beaches, parks, and other attractions. There are also eating places where you can take your dog. Rules for the park and beaches can be found on the Internet and are posted at the beaches and parks. You should also check with the Information office.

When traveling with your pet and you are booked into accommodations that are pet friendly, you should follow some rules of etiquette.

Here are some pet friendly accommodation tips:

1. Read any instructions left by the vacation rental owner.

2. Keep your dog on its leash. Although your dog is friendly and people don’t seem too afraid, the condo residents or neighbors will be appreciative. Make sure you know the leash law in the area you are visiting.

3. Clean up after your dog. You can either purchase pooper bags or use plastic sandwich bags.

4. Do not allow your dog to use the bathroom near condo units. Take your dog to an area behind the parking lot or to a dirt area. The condo may have a designated area or there may be a dog park nearby.

5. Do not leave your dog alone in unfamiliar surroundings. Even well-behaved dogs get bored. They can damage furniture. It is also necessary for protection of your pet.

6. If you are vacationing in a wooded or mountainous area, ask about the wildlife in the area. Keep an eye on your pet while you are taking in the breathtaking views.

Depending on the area you are visiting, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that you can take your dog to the beach, inside a store, or stay at the table while you are eating. You should always ask first.

It is no longer necessary to leave your pet at home when you travel. You just have to follow the rules and make sure your pet is well-behaved in public areas.

San Diego, California

San Diego by Trolley

Midway Aircraft Carrier

One of the best ways to see the popular sights in San Diego is to purchase a ticket from the Old Town Trolley in San Diego. The trolley tour makes eight stops and you can get on and off and see all the sights and get back on when you are finished exploring each area. The narrated tour is two hours long and takes passengers to the San Diego Zoo, Sea Port Village, area museums and to Coronado with an opportunity to visit the famous Del Coronado Hotel where the movie Some Like It Hot was filmed.

A new stop on the trolley tour is the Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum. Here, you can go aboard the former aircraft carrier that was used in many military expeditions and wars.

There are many choices when it comes to accommodations in San Diego from bed and breakfasts, to lavish oceanfront resorts and luxurious inland properties with beautiful grounds and luxurious casitas. On my recent trip in San Diego, I had the opportunity to stay at two different types of resorts, Rancho Valencia, an inland property renown for its gorgeous grounds and spacious casitas in Rancho Santa Fe, about 25 miles north of San Diego and the La Jolla Hilton Hotel, nestled in a mountain overlooking the sea, a 20-minute drive north from San Diego’s downtown area.
