As spring begins to arrive in Colorado, the state begins its transformation into a palate of vivid colors. While skiers and snowboarders continue to enjoy Colorado’s powder in ski areas like Arapahoe Basin well into spring, many areas in Colorado embrace the beginning of spring with the debut of new attractions and exciting festivals celebrating everything from music and mountain biking to food, wine and more.

Below is a sampling of some of the ways visitors can begin to celebrate spring in Colorado.

FestEVOL in Crested Butte (March 26). Top touring and recording artists O.A.R. will headline the first ever FestEVOL, a new mountain lifestyle event in Crested Butte. In addition to live music, FestEVOL will feature the IZSTYLE Reverb Eco Village, an interactive area showcasing environmental groups, alternative energy exhibits, organic food sampling, ski and snowboard equipment demos from Nordica and Burton Snowboards and more. Lift, lodging and event packages start at $149; concert-only tickets are $35 if purchased by March 19, 2011. www.skicb.com/festevol

New Belgium Brewing Fruita Fat Tire Festival (April 28-May 1). Experience some of Colorado’s best mountain biking, check out the latest products from the best in the bike industry at the Bike Expo in downtown Fruita’s Civic Center Park and join road rides through the Colorado National Monument, over Douglas Pass, and through wine country. www.fruitamountainbike.com

Spring Back To Vail (April 15-24). Vail's epic event to mark the end of its ski season and celebrating the beginning of the spring season includes free concerts from national headlining music acts such as Train and Stephen Marley and the now famous World Pond Skimming Championships. Street parties, live music and entertainment are all part of the experience. www.springbacktovail.com

So, where are the very best places to live in the West?

In 2011, they include Amarillo, which made American Cowboy’s list of 20 Best Places to Live in the West. The list is featured in the April/May issue of American Cowboy at www.americancowboy.com.

“This year’s entries truly live up to the Western ideal of places embodying the rugged, free spirit of the Western version of the American Dream,” said DeAnna Jarnagin, Associate Publisher of American Cowboy. “They’re places where you can experience authentic cowboy culture, spectacular scenery, a true dose of history and a really, really good steak.”

Amarillo boasts wide-open spaces, starry skies, four seasons, clean air, affordable housing, low unemployment, honest handshakes and true Texas hospitality. Additionally, it is home to many Western icons; just a few include-
-Palo Duro Canyon, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Outdoor Musical Drama TEXAS, American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum, Kwahadi Museum of the American Indian, Big Texan Steak Ranch, World Championship Ranch Rodeo, Historic Route 66, - Amarillo Livestock Auction, one of the largest private livestock auctions in Texas.

Joining Amarillo, which is the only Texas city on the 2011 list, are Elko, NV, Red Bluff, CA, Temecula, CA, Bishop, CA, Pocatello, ID, Baker City, OR, Kennewick, WA, Lewiston, ID, Farmington, NM, Tombstone, AZ, Logan, UT, Cedar City, UT, Sheridan, WY, Cody, WY, Miles City, MT, Canon City, CO, Deadwood, SD, Guthrie, OK and North Platte, NE.
