South Padre Island, Texas

Welcome to
South Padre Island
South Padre
Island is a 34-mile long sub-tropical Island located on the Gulf
Coast of Texas, 25 miles north of the Mexican border. The Island
is a half-mile wide at its widest point. Only the island’s
southernmost five miles are developed. More than 5,000 residents

overnight visitors each year. The Island is on the same latitude
as Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
South Padre
Island is famous for its sub-tropical climate and year round
moderate temperatures. Mild, semi-arid weather means lots of
sunny days, with an average annual temperature of 74 degrees.
The Island offers
more than 4,000 guest rooms and condominiums. Lodging options
include full-service resort hotels, motels, and bed and
breakfasts. Public and private campgrounds are also available.
With a tropical
feel, white sandy beaches and blue waters, South Padre Island is
a world-class, year-round beach destination on the Gulf of
Mexico, just over six miles north of the Mexican border by water
(25 miles by road). In 2008, Men’s Fitness Magazine named it one
of the top 10 beaches in the country. The Island provides a
warm, four-season welcome with an abundance of activities such
as water sports, dolphin watching, fishing, horseback riding,
shopping, diving and birding.

Memorial Hall, courtesy Alexandria CVA, The George Washington
Masonic Memorial Hall features a 17 foot bronze statue of
Washington as well as other Masonic artifacts.
Alexandria,
Virginia, located just outside of Washington, D.C., was founded
in 1749 by Scottish merchants. Home to George Washington and
Robert E. Lee, Alexandria has played a pivotal role in the
history of this country from Colonial settlement to the Civil
War to the Civil Rights era. Today, Alexandria is the
destination for those looking for boutique shopping,
one-of-a-kind restaurants, a variety of hotels from the
luxurious to the affordable all in a historic setting.
America's
Colonial seaports were known for elegance and cosmopolitan
sophistication, drawing visitors with exotic wares from around
the world. That tradition continues today throughout the Old
Town historic district. Stay in style at a one of many hotels
within walking distance of shops of King Street, Old Town's main
street. Pamper yourself at a soothing day spa. Enjoy an elegant
dinner at one of Alexandria's four-star restaurants, or board
Nina's Dandy for dinner and dancing along the Potomac River.
During Virginia's
famous Garden Week in April, several private homes and gardens,
representing the city at its most elegant, are open. But, with
its temperate climate and strong tradition of English-style
gardening, the city is a lovely destination many months of year.
Visit River Farm, once one of George Washington's properties and
now operated as headquarters of the American Horticultural
Society. The exuberant gardens of Mount Vernon and the
400-year-old boxwoods at Gunston Hall Plantation are also well
worth the trip.
