Geographical description: Greeley is located
approximately 60 miles northeast of Denver, Coloardo and 30 miles east
of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

270 days.
Population: 80,000
Area History: It was Horace Greeley, editor of
the New York Tribune, who coined the famous phrase, "Go West, young man,
go West", but it was his visionary agricultural editor, Nathan C.
Meeker, who spearheaded one of the most successful colonization
experiments, who ultimately formed a joint stock company called the
Union Colony in December 1869 (now Greeley). Through irrigation this
area was turned into one of the top five agricultural producing counties
in the nation.
What to see and do: Colorado Farm Show;
University of Northern Colorado Jazz Festival; Cinco de Mayo/Semana
Latina Festival; Greeley's Rocky Mountain Stampede; Arts Picnic; High
Plains Chautauqua; Greeley Fiesta; Potato Day Festival; Hot Air Balloon
Harvest; and Festival of Trees.
State/Area Trivia and interesting or little known
facts: Greeley is the county seat of Weld County. Weld County is
3,999 square miles, an area greater than that of Rhode Island, Delaware
and the District of Columbia combined. With the expansive prairie out
one door and the towering Rocky Mountains out the other, Greeley is a
city of unlikely combinations that complement each other beautifully.
Experience the best of the Contemporary West in a place where you can
feel equally comfortable in a cowboy hat or a business suit. Where you
can explore miles of wide-open prairie or pristine forest and get back
in time for the symphony. Enjoy a balance of economic stability and
cultural diversity. Leisurely if you want it to be, fast-paced when you
are ready for adventure, our city accommodates both with an easy charm.
